Bits, bytes and why the two differ
A lowercase b is a bit and an uppercase B is a byte, and there are eight bits in a byte. Internet plans are sold in bits per second while files and download managers are measured in bytes, which is why a 1,000 Mbps line tops out at around 125 MB/s rather than 1,000.

What is Mbps to Gbps Conversion?
Mbps (megabits per second) and Gbps (gigabits per second) are both units used to measure data transfer speed, meaning how much data moves across a network every second. Since 1 Gbps equals 1,000 Mbps, converting between the two is simple division or multiplication by 1,000.
Mbps to Gbps conversion is used whenever you need to compare speeds written in different units, for example an internet plan advertised as 2,500 Mbps against a router that lists its ports in Gbps.
What is Mbps?
Mbps stands for megabits per second. One megabit is 1,000,000 bits, so 1 Mbps means one million bits of data move every second. Mbps is the most common unit for home internet plans, mobile data speeds and speed tests. Plans such as 50 Mbps, 100 Mbps or 500 Mbps are usually described in this unit.
What is Gbps?
Gbps stands for gigabits per second. One gigabit is 1,000,000,000 bits, so 1 Gbps equals 1,000 Mbps. Gbps is used for very fast connections such as fibre internet, wired networks and data centres, where writing the speed in Mbps would need very large numbers.

Gbps = Mbps ÷ 1,000
Mbps = Gbps × 1,000
Examples:
500 Mbps ÷ 1,000 = 0.5 Gbps
2,500 Mbps ÷ 1,000 = 2.5 Gbps
2 Gbps × 1,000 = 2,000 Mbps

Use binary units if needed. Turn on Show binary units (KiB, MiB, GiB) if your tool reports sizes in powers of 1,024 instead of 1,000.
